COVID 19: THAT’S HOW PARAGUAY FIGHT IT

26/11/2020 By admin

Unfortunately, in September 2020 Covid 19 is still the number-one topic, for its health, social, economic and psychological  implications in all countries.

And Paraguay is no exception: as everybody knows, a few Latin American States, like Brazil in the first place, Columbia, Argentine and Peru have been severely affected by the pandemic, that brought down the National Health Service and did untold damage to the economy of these countries.

But Paraguay, compared to other countries,  had and has a more favourable and less worring situation.

Why? There can be a few possible explanations, but what became immediately clear was the ready and motivated answer of the people to the inevitable security measures made initially to fight the epidemic and to limit hospitalization, both in hospital departments and in intensive care.  Last spring quarantine, closing of borders, and limiting the movement within the country were necessary to prevent the spread of Covid-19, considering also that Brazil and Argentine border on Paraguay and are two country where Covid-19 is out of control.

Paraguay desperately wants to get out of this situation, as soon as possible, because it is aware of the wealth that European and American people bring to the life and economy of this small but hardworking south American country and wants to welcome them as soon as possible.

In this regard, the Government was very strict to indicate preventive measures like the  use of mask,  social distance, frequent hand washing, because Paraguayan Government is aware that these behaviours help to fight and overcome Covid 19; in this way people can return to a normal life.

This virus is tenacious and it looks like that last weeks it became more dangerous, even if the figures of other south American countries seem to be far away.

To fight and win this battle, the Paraguayan Government  has implemented a considerable range of measures designed to reduce this dangerous virus. Currently, the Ministry of Health obliges to use face mask in all closed places such as shops, offices, supermarkets and on all public transport. Gradually, international flights have reopened for citizens and residents  and in October for tourists too.

But the Department of Immigration has temporarily extended the period of legal stay in the country for temporary tourists or residents in possession of a visa expired on 13th March, the official starting day of pandemic.

As we have seen, these precautions have been effective: infected people are decreasing and in the next weeks are planned additional alleviations of taken measures.

AID AND SOLIDARITY

Covid 19 has made us understand that virus respects no one in particular and we must be united and supportive to fight and win it.

In this regard, solidarity is essential, not only among people of the individual countries, but also from country to country and it is very beautiful to point out an act of generosity from Japan towards  Paraguay.

As a matter of fact, in August the South American country received $11 million by Japan. Part of this amount was a loan and part was a donation to help Paraguay to recover from pandemic and get back to normal as soon as possible, that is welcoming and accommodating many foreigners, who every year chose to move to Paraguay, a country full of opportunities both for workers and pensioners.

The Paraguayan Foreign Minister and the Japanese Ambassador in Asunción IshidaNaohiro signed to implement this economic and development plan, that allowed to buy several ambulances and mobile radiological equipment.

In addition, to improve sanitary conditions  in the peripheral areas of Paraguay, Japan offered another donation to optimize drinking water supply and sewage in the country.

And there is no denying, that precise application of anti covid measures, coupled with Japanese solidarity help very much to contain the epidemic.
