In this episode, we will explore the ideal path to Paraguayan citizenship and discuss whether you really need a second passport. We will outline the steps required to obtain residency and share advice on potential stops along the way, additional services, and how we save time for our clients.
In previous episodes, we discussed the goals that can be achieved with Paraguayan residency. We covered the opportunities that temporary residency provides and the basis for becoming a Paraguayan resident in 2023.
The need for a second passport and second citizenship seems self-evident and requires no further justification. A second passport is about taking care of yourself, your future, your family, your freedom, your business, and your endeavors. Paraguay currently offers some of the best conditions for obtaining citizenship, with an easy and cost-effective procedure. We assist our clients in transitioning from temporary residency to a passport in a stable and entirely lawful manner, within the best timeframes and at the best cost for the entire service.
So, let’s begin the journey to the passport.
1. Information Gathering
As we mentioned, we determine the client’s goals and needs, communicate to understand which documents need to be obtained from the client’s country. However, we can be helpful not only through chat. 2. Verify or Obtain the Applicant’s Necessary Documents
For applicants for temporary residency, which is the first step towards obtaining a passport, the following original documents with apostilles and translations into Spanish are required: birth certificate, criminal record check if applicable, marriage certificate, We are ready to assist in the document preparation process, including apostille services, even remotely.
3. After all formalities, signing the contract, and agreeing on personal details, a journey to Paraguay awaits you.
To obtain around 15 local certificates together with the applicant and submit all documents, a presence in Paraguay for about a week is necessary. We are prepared to assist in finding tickets and accommodation during your stay. If you do not plan to reside in Paraguay, we can send the residency documents to you by mail after obtaining them. You do not loose your residence and Cedula in Paraguay if you do not live there, you must sleep only one night every 3 years.
4. Obtaining Temporary Residency and Cedula Card. The Key Step toward Citizenship.
As we mentioned earlier, the application process takes five days. The processing time for temporary residency and the issuance of the Cedula card ranges from 3 to 6 months from the application date. Once you have temporary residency, you gain the right to reside in the country, open a business, and access several other opportunities. We strictly adhere to legal conditions and provide a guarantee of results, so we provide only realistic processing timeframes.

5. Obtaining Permanent Residency after Two Years. The Second Most Crucial Step in Obtaining Citizenship.
Two years after obtaining temporary residency, you can apply for permanent and indefinite residence in the country, thanks to recent legislative changes that have made the procedure easier. If you do not plan to live in the country, applying for permanent residency will be another reason to visit Paraguay once or twice. To qualify for citizenship and obtain a passport, a holder of temporary and permanent residency must have the residence for a minimum of three years. This requirement can be combined with the application for permanent residency. (see article 148 of the constitution of Paraguay).
6. Obtaining a Passport in Three Years
If all conditions are met, after one year of holding a permanent residency permit, a resident can apply for Paraguayan citizenship and a Paraguayan passport.

I’ll provide a bit more detail on Company Formation after obtaining temporary residency: In Paraguay, limited liability companies (LTD) are established. If you’re running a local business focused on the domestic market, we can help with opening a bank account and obtaining a fiscal ID. However, you can also set up a company with your existing bank account or services like Revolut if your income is not from Paraguay. In such cases, a fiscal ID may not be necessary. We also offer comprehensive accounting and legal services, provide real estate advice for living and business, and assist with obtaining driver’s licenses.
We begin work after the contract is signed, following the rules of EU remote contracts, with payment made to the company’s account. Payment stages include 50% upon contract signing, 30% 15 days before your departure to Paraguay, and 20% upon receiving a receipt confirming the submission of your residency and identity card documents.
