PARAGUAY AND CORONAVIRUS

24/04/2020 By admin

Even in Paraguay Coronavirus has arrived, as almost everywehere in the world. But what are the positive signals? How this little and dynamic country is facing pandemic?

There are several information. Here they are in short.

First of all, the Government of Paraguay is well aware that its territory for at least the last ten years has become an international tourism destination for thousands of tourists and foreign citizens, especially European and North American, who applied for permanent residence and decided to live in Paraguay, due to the many tax benefits, that Paraguay offers them.

This huge number of strangers on the territory was certainly a reason for the development and the growth of the country and so it will be also in the future.

But, in this difficult and delicate time, the Paraguayan Government has ordered the closing of borders starting on 6th  April. At first, the closing  was foreseen till April 12th, but then was postponed until end of April.

Also a quarantine has been ordered, to avoid the spread of infection, so that health emergency may  cease as soon as possible.

As a matter of fact, since March 10th the Government of Paraguay has ordered the total closure of schools, universities, shopping malls and, of course, restaurants and coffees shops.

In addition, any cultural and sporting events have been suspended until further notice. As you can imagine, the lock-down of the country has also affected flights, that have been totally cancelled.

All flights to and from Europe have been suspended, in order to limit contact and the subsequent diffusion of the virus.

All those who came to Paraguay must respect the quarantine, like the local population.

The Government is very careful and wants to stictly enforce the measures, punishing any offenders, because it wants to do everything possible to minimise the spread of the virus.

All these measures have ensured that the number of infections and dead people is very limited and Paraguay with Chile and Panama has  an excellent control of the virus.

TOWARDS A RETURN TO NORMALITY

We all hope, and Paraguay is no exception, that this difficult period will be over, and that we can get back to normal in a reasonable time, even if we have to keep some precautions.

As a matter of fact, these precautions (for example: mask, gloves and distance between people) are really  basic.

Every thing should go back to normal in a few weeks.

At the moment, Paraguay is especially considering the gathering spaces, as for instance shopping malls and implementing measures to secure them, once the timing of lock-down will be over. For this reason Paraguay is very careful to trace a sort of “roadmap” to adjust times and modes of future possible openings.

In this regards, the owner of the Paseo 1811, a big shopping mall of the Paraguayan town Fernando de la Mora has recently declared in an interview with the newspaper “5 Dias” that she wants to listen carefully to the declarations and indications of the Government, and the Ministry of Health to resume business safely.

Currently, the situation is constantly evolving and, despite the decline in purchases, people are working to continue with courage and trust to apply the present measures and the possible future ones.

Paraguay, like any other country, is working hard at all levels, so that this difficult situations returns to normality as soon as possible.
