What must you do to renew your residence in Paraguay and your Paraguayan biometric Identity Card?

At present the permanent residence (and the Paraguayan biometric Identity Card) may last for two years. However, in any case you must renew both your temporary residence, that expires after two years, and your permanent residence, that expires after ten years.
The procedure is easy: you have to take an appointment at the Police Headquarters of Buggiani Street in Asunción, where you will be taken a photo and you will be fingerprinted and where you will need to fill a form and a request, paying a little tax.
You will be issued a receipt and after about 60/70 days you will receive the duplicate of the renewal of your residence and you Paraguayan biometric Identity Card.
If you pay a small extra sum, the “express” procedure is activated and you can get the renewal of your residence a few days in advance.
For the renewal of your residence and of your Paraguayan biometric Identity Card, you do not have to worry, because all those who are “allowed” in Paraguay, automatically acquire the right to renew their residence and their Paraaguayan biometric Identity Card, as they are about to expire, since their residence has already been approved in advance and therefore there are not any problem.
Therefore, we repeat that the renewal of your residence and of your Paraguayan biometric Identity Card is a procedure completely identical to what exists in Europe. Nothing more and nothing less.
The only recommendation we make to our clients is to go to Police Headquarters a few days or weeks before the expiry of your documents, so as not to turn around for a few days with your expired documents.
