Families Are Setting in The United Colonies Communities Founded by Germans

Families are settling in Hohenau and also in Obligado and Bella Vista, communities founded by Germans which have a large part of their population of German origin.

It is not possible to pinpoint the number of new Germans in the area, but many are settling in the region.

A large number of Europeans arrive to settle in the United Colonies area, Department of Itapúa.  The migratory phenomenon has been underway for about three years, but above all it has become more evident in recent months and in recent days.

Germans, Russian, Belgians ans Poles

Whole families are settling in Hohenau and also in Obligado and Bella Vista, communities founded by Germans which have a large part of their population of German origin who retain their language, their customs and traditions, a situation which facilitates the integration of those who come from Germany.

Many German immigrants live in this area. Russians, Belgians, and Poles also arrive here. The United Colonies receive constant waves of European immigration. This mainly includes German citizens.

This trend started during the First World War. It happened between 1914 and 1917. It repeated during the Second World War. After the war, many immigrants reached Hohenau. Some were escaping from Nazism. Others were members of the regime seeking protection. These groups took root in the region. Today, many local families are their descendants.

The Appeal for German Expats

Many German citizens move to this area today. Many are retirees in their home country. Others are tired of living in big German cities. Some cannot pay the high taxes in Germany anymore.

Even rural producers move here to work. They find peace and tranquility in this region. They enjoy the natural beauty and low taxes. Integration is very easy for them. They already know the German customs and language in the colony.

The Current German Migration to Paraguay

Many German citizens are moving to this specific area. Most of them are retirees in their home country. Others are tired of life in big German cities. High taxes in Germany also drive people away.

Even rural producers choose to work here now. They find great peace and tranquility in this region. The natural beauty and low taxes are huge benefits. Integration is very easy for them. They already know the local German customs and language.

Economic Impact and Success Stories

New immigrants settle very quickly in the community. They work in many different business sectors. Some focus on agricultural production and farming. Others build and rent modern apartment buildings.

Some expats import heavy machinery from Germany in containers. They use these tools for professional earthmoving work. This is the case of Rudy. He moved to Obligado three years ago. His business created many new jobs in the local area.

The current German surge occurs for various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the situation that has arisen in Afghanistan.

People Evading Pandemic Situation

Due to the Covid issue, many German people come because they don’t want to be vaccinated and they don’t want their children to be vaccinated, which is why many families come with children and teenagers.  Others come to the area because there is massive immigration of Muslims and Islamists to several European countries, especially Germany, according to Renius Becker, a Paraguayan of German origin who lives in Hohenau.

Becker, like other descendants, are contacts to which Germans go looking for land or a plot of land on which to build their houses and live there. Some German people come without their family.  They scout the place, buy some land, build their house, then go back to Germany and bring their whole family here.  Numerous people from Colonias Unidas are selling part of their land plots to American people.
